Dragonfly Drum

In 1998, we decided to build our own "POW WOW" Drum. Two moose hides were purchased, a new cedar core was donated to us and our group built its own drum, Many hours went into this.

Lessons were given to a large group so that we have a good core of trained drummers to draw on . We have both men and women drummers.

The music of the drum has brought joy to the drummers and listeners for years, and a great amount of spiritual development has gone on within our clan.

For a short time our drum was silent as some of our drummers were absent from the clan and others moved away.  But in 2006, at a special ceremony, the drum was re-dedicated to the use of the Clan. During the ceremony, two hawks flew in large circles high above the sacred circle.

A lone dragonfly played in and out of the circle with the participants. At the sound of the first beat of the drum after its dedication, the dragonfly flew straight up from the center, made a final circuit around the drummers and flew off into the night. Dragonflies have been used for centuries as a sign of magic and rebirth. The drum was named "Dragonfly.'
